As active global citizens, we are part of the Youth Inclusive Budget Consultative Conference at the Parliamentof Zimbabwe . The conference is contributing to the national budget strategy paper for 2025 which is running under the theme that is “Building resilience for sustainable economic transformation”. We managed to make inputs into how 4 ministries can be inclusive of youth in their budgeting as follows:
- Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife
We recognize that a huge part of this Ministry’s work should be on climate action considering the current effects of climate change. We therefore, recommend that there be budget set towards promoting digitalization to promote climate action. This includes setting aside money for skills equipment and infrastructure on digitalization for climate and environmental protection.
- Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services
We realise that because we import ICT equipment it means that our public institutions will always have outdated equipment while technology keeps evolving. Therefore, we recommend that the 2025 budget prioritizes investment in startup companies that are assembling and or inventing ICT equipment and other technologies.
- Ministry of Sports, Recreation Arts and Culture.
The EmpowerBank Zimbabwe has not disbursed loans to young people in art because art is not a bankable business. It however needs investment for it to be bankable. Therefore, may artists be prioritized in the 2025 budget for loans and grants. Art is a business.
- Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development
We have realised that the least advantages youth in the country do not have a means of accessing and owning land because of the process and prize. We encourage the 2025 budget to come up with a scheme that will enable young women to access commercial land.
We hope that these contributions among others will shape the 2025 budget of the country.
