Youth for innovation Trust in partnership with uMahlekisa Comedy Club will on Friday afternoon host local artists in an event dubbed Accountability Concert at Lobengula Hall in Bulawayo.
Some of the Bulawayo artists lined up for the Concert include the Bulawayo Arts Awards song of the year hitmaker Novuyo SeaGirl, Qeqeshiwe Mntambo, Mzoe7, Msizkay, Stewie Lasavage, Ntando Van Moyo, Zwe and many more.
The Accountability Concert is an initiative spearheaded by Youth For Innovation Trust in partnership with umahlekisa Comedy Club as an extension of the Humor for social change project which seeks to bring about accountability between politicians and the electorate. This project seeks to bring closer the politicians and the electorate through community meetings, dialogues, concerts and roasts. thereby encouraging accountability and making leaders deliver on their promises.
Speaking to Lorraine Ndlovu the Youth For Innovation Trust Programs director said the event is meant to bridge the gap between young people and elected officials and young people feel the elected leaders are not accessible. ‘We are working with umahlekisa Comedy club our aim is to create a free and safe space for young people to echo their views on community issues without fear hence this concert will be a platform for young people to engage local councillors as well as be entertained by local artists’ she said
In 2019 Youth For Innovation Trust has worked on a number of projects to encourage youth participation in various governance issues ,these programs include Humor For social change targeted at Tertiary University students focusing on Sexual Reproduction Health Rights, Cyber bullying, Economic Apathy, Alcohol, drug and substance abuse and Gender Based Violence.
